I found Belford (well, Balfour) Daugherty in the 1830 census in Fallowfield, Washington Co., Pennsylvania. Hmm, interesting coincidence that he happens to be in the very same town as John Nixon at about the time that Edward and Margaret got married. Chalk that up to one more piece of circumstantial evidence that he is Margaret's father. I still need something concrete though.
Source Citation: Year: 1830; Census Place: Fallowfield, Washington, Pennsylvania; Roll: 163; Page: 143
Extraction:
Name: Balfour Dougherty
Males under 5: 2 (Francis, John)
Males 5-10: 1 (Franklin)
Males 10-15: 2 (same unknowns as appear in 1840 census)
Males 15-20: 1 (unknown)
Males 40-50: 1 (Belford)
Females 5-10: 1 (Dianna)
Females 10-15: 3 (unknown)
Females 15-20: 1 (unknown)
Females 30-40: 1 (Catharine)
All the ages match for the other censuses I've found, so I'm pretty sure this is the same family. I couldn't find anything close to a Belford Daugherty in Ohio in this census. Also the 1850 census says they were born in Pennsylvania. Everything matches as far as I can tell.
